LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) proposed a $200 million expansion of the “MI Clean Water Plan” to remove lead service lines across the state.

The plans calls on the legislature to use federal funds from the American Rescue Plan to improve access to safe drinking water.

According to a press release, Gov. Whitmer wants to earmark $20 million dollars out of the total expansion proposal to replace all the lead service lines in Benton Harbor in five years.
